UK Bans Smartphones & Laptops On Airlines – The UK Government recently made a banning order regarding carrying of big smartphones and laptops on board. The ban could be seen to affect six major countries including Middle Eastern and African countries.
It was clearly stated that phones, laptops and tablets larger than 16.0cm x 9.3cm x 1.5cm are not allowed in the cabin on flights to United Kingdom.
“phones, laptops and tablets larger than:
- length: 16.0cm
- width: 9.3cm
- depth: 1.5cm
will not be allowed in the cabin on selected flights to the UK from the countries affected.
“Most smart phones fall within these limits and will continue to be allowed on board. However, devices larger than these dimensions may not be carried in the cabin”, the department made known.
According the announcement, UK government keeps aviation security under constant review; saying “the safety and security of the public is our major concern. And the measures are necessary, effective and proportionate”.
The security measures affect direct flights to the UK from Lebanon, Turkey, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Jordan and Tunisia
A UK government spokesperson further said: “Decisions to make changes to our aviation security regime are never taken lightly.”
“We will not hesitate to act in order to maintain the safety of the traveling public and we will work closely with our international partners to minimize any disruption these new measures may cause.”
