Poorest States in Nigeria by GDP: Nigeria is a country made up of 36 states and due to its natural resources,

it is assumed that the states should be productive and are meant to have good governance capable of managing these resources to generate revenue but the reverse is the case.

Some states in Nigeria are down with poverty by 70% and this is as a result of bad governance, inability to manage resources or security problems.

1. Sokoto state

Sokoto has been rated as the poorest state in Nigeria many times, ranking 81.2% on the poverty level. The harsh climate conditions have restricted people from going to this state and have prevented investments from foreigners. It is also the seat of the caliphate.

2. Katsina State

Katsina is one of the poorest states in Nigeria because it has few or no sectors generating revenue for the state. It is located at the deepest part of the North-Western area of Nigeria.

Jigawa state has a poverty level of 72.1% due to its low literacy level and growth of the economy. This state is located in the North-Western part of Nigeria.
