Nnamdi Kanu Biography – Who Is Nnamdi Kanu?
Nnamdi Kanu, born Nwannekaenyi Nnamdi Kenny Okwu Kanu is the director of Radio Biafra and one of the leaders of the Indigeneous People of Biafra (IPOB).
He is a political activist who also is a British-Nigerian by nationality, running the Radio Biafra based in London where he studied political economics.
Nnamdi Kanu early Life / Background
Nnamdi Kanu was born on September, 1967 in Isiama Afara, Abia State, Nigeria, to the family of HRH Eze Isreal Kanu (who is Nnamdi Kanu’s father) and Ugoeze Nnenne Kanu (Kanu’s mother), along side his two siblings- Princess Chinwe Kanu and Prince Emmanuel Kanu. Meanwhile, Nnamdi Kanu is married to his Uchechi kwu Kanu.
While growing up, Nnamdi Kanu attended Library Avenue Primary School, Umuahia, and also had his secondary school at Government College Umuahia, both in Umuahia, Abia State.
After completing his secondary school education, Kanu later gained admission into the University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN), where he left just after two years without completing his tertiary education there.
He moved to London where he studied Political Economics at London Guildhall University, (now London Metropolitan University (LMU)).
Nnamdi Kanu Arrest & Rise To Prominence
By the way, Nnamdi Kanu’s Biafra was founded in London in 2009. Nnamdi Kanu became a household name in October 2015 following his arrest in Lagos State by Department of State Services (DSS).
After the report and news about his arrest in his hotel room (Golden Tulip Essential Hotel, Ikeja) broke to the public, it led to massive protest and demonstration across South East region of Nigeria, including Abia State, Anambra, Imo State, Enugu State, Rivers State etc. This actually popularized Nnamdi Kanu, making him a household name in Nigeria and beyong.
Series of protests for his release from detention continued, but all was futile. Eventually Nnamdi Kanu was released after giving bail conditions which Kanu met.
Till today Nnamdi Kanu still pulls heavy crowd anywhere he visits in the South East of Nigeria, the kind no one has ever seen pulled even among the Nigerian politician. This has even made some qualify Nnamdi Kanu as a god!

“So we all are different in several ways, in every way. So, we are not actually meant to be together. You must have heard about the Biafran war. My mom was born then, a few years before the war. We sort of defended ourselves. We defended ourselves for over a long period of time,” – Uchechi Okwu-Kanu.
“We don’t have better schools, we don’t have better roads, we don’t have anything, not even jobs…So that is why what they are doing is to leave. So, I would say referendum is not a bad idea, it is not a bad option, but the people need to understand why we want Biafra.” – Uchechi Okwu-Kanu.
“But if you know the reason why you are asking for something: you are asking for bread because you are hungry, and then you are thrown into jail. Then you released from the jail, but still didn’t receive your bread, you are still hungry. So he would continue, he will, yes,” Kanu’s wife concluded.
On Nnamdi Kanu Being Seen as a god, here are some incredible things he has done which no living Nigerian has been able to do;

- Some of Kanu’s followers have gone as far as proclaiming him their messiah.
- Looking at all the Campaign and protests for the actualization of the sovereign state of Biafra, and having been able to withstand all odd and couldn’t b stopped by the Nigerian Soldiers in Ebonyi state Nigeria, Nnamdi Kanu is indeed a living god in Igbo land, the South eastern region of Nigeria.
