Michelle Kwan’s husband Clay Pell files for divorce
Michelle Kwan’s husband Clay Pell files for divorce – Famed and Gold medal-winning figure skater Michelle Kwan’s husband, Clay Pell, filed for divorce on March 27 in the Los Angeles County Superior Court, citing irreconcilable differences, the Daily News has confirmed.
Pell, the grandson of the late Rhode Island senator Claiborne Pell, has hired celebrity divorce lawyer Joe Mannis, who has previously represented actor Dennis Hopper, “Matrix” filmmaker Lana Wachowski and Larry King’s wife Shawn Southwick.
The two-time Olympic medalist, 36, and her former White House National Security staffer husband, who wants Kwan to foot his lawyer fees, married in January 2013 in Rhode Island, where Pell once ran unsuccessfully for governor.
Kwan, the most decorated figure skater in U.S. history, has taken an interest in public policy since her retirement from the ice.
After graduating with a master’s degree in international relations from Tufts University in 2011, Kwan served as a surrogate outreach coordinator for Hillary Clinton’s 2016 presidential campaign.
