JAMB Will Screen Graduates Before NYSC Mobilization – The Nation Youth Service Corps (NYSC) and the Joint Admissions And Matriculation Board (JAMB) joins hand to tackle irregularities of university admissions.
This resulted from a complaint lodged to JAMB body by the NYSC on the abuse of regulation of admission by institutions producing Corps members, in which case the abuse of the regulation makes the mobilization of prospective corps members difficult.
Consequently, this was made subject of discussion when Professor Ishaq Oloyede, the JAMB Registrar paid a visit to the Director General, Brigadier General Sulaiman Kazaure, at the NYSC National Directorate Headquarters.
According to the letter NYSC sent to JAMB – this reads
“JAMB should revise the window of post-graduation regularization by introducing measures that will make it impossible for institutions to abuse the regularization of admissions process.”
Following this, it is now mandatory for all institution graduates to be cleared by JAMB before they are deemed qualified for NYSC mobilization.
The JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede who confirmed the abuse during a meeting of the two executives in Abuja noted that the JAMB body had taken measures to address the issue.
Prof. Oloyede, while quoting the NYSC letter, lamented the rate some students are desperate to regularize their admission.
Prof made it known that a new template has been designed by the board for all candidates who need to be regularized and is to be completed online.
He further added that after completing the form online, a candidate will print an indemnity form, which must be endorsed by the candidate’s Vice Chancellor/Rector/Provost and submitted to the state JAMB office.
The Director General of the NYSC, Brig-General Suleiman Kazaure who solicited the cooperation of JAMB to have access to the number of students admitted on yearly basis, also declared support for the idea of tripartite meeting of JAMB, National Universities Commission (NUC) and NYSC to address the irregularities.
Meanwhile, as the NYSC opens camps nationwide for the two weeks orientation exercise, the Federal Government has assured parents and guardians of the safety of their children.
Solomon Dalung, the Minister of Youth and Sports said NYSC camps across the country had been adequately protected and upgraded to make them conducive for the corps members. He gave the assurance at the official commissioning of four-field operational vehicles at the NYSC Directorate Headquarters in Abuja.
