Bill Gates Joins WeChat Chinese Social Network WeChat – The American billionaire and Microsoft Founder Bill Gates has become a rage in China after he on Saturday joined Chinese social media messaging app WeChat and greeted his followers in Mandarin.

In a one-minute video uploaded on February 11, the co-founder and former head of Microsoft, greeted and welcomed everyone to his official account, including Chinese Netizens. While describing his account as his personal blog.

In his expression,he said his account would “share about the people I meet, books I’m reading and what I’m learning”.

And the post has ever since been viewed more than nine million times and received more than 18,000 likes.

Meanwhile, the WeChat’s make Tencent had made it known that WeChat has became China’s top social app, housing more than 800 million users ever since its launch in 2011. Including Adam Lambert, Selena Gomez and even the Backstreet Boys who have signed up to WeChat to engage with Chinese fans.

The opening of Gates’ new account confirms his interest in China’s growing content market. The China Daily, citing sources close to Gates, said the philanthropist will share information on global health, energy innovation and education reform through his account. And the billionaire has been posting topics even on climate change, fighting global poverty among others.

With the followers he is already gaining, it could be seen that Bill Gates is not new to Chinese social media locale. Moreover, Beijing houses one of the most important offices of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, which he has been jointly managing with his wife since he retired from Microsoft in 2008. Bill Gates has constantly used new social media channels including regular Reddit AMA’s and Secret Santa to engage with internet users.
